wallflowers: Sights and sounds of Singapore

What will you notice, if you slow down to appreciate the little moments?

Wallflowers is a multi-disciplinary project that highlights the hidden sights and sounds of iconic locations in Singapore. Supported by the National Arts Council, a team of upcoming creatives from the local arts scene have come together to contribute different facets that make up this cross-disciplinary collaboration.

The collaborators of the Wallflowers project hope to encourage people in Singapore to pay greater attention to their daily environments and rediscover the beauty of the little things in life.

Video SERIES

Capturing the visual essence of each location and documenting the process of creating the sound library, viewers are treated to intimate close-ups of everyday life. The smiles of a friendly neighbour, the morning bustle at the neighbourhood market, the rowdiness of a kopitiam at suppertime. Artistically composed moments, captured in time.

Sound Libraries

The Wallflowers sound collection consists of sound libraries, with sound samples recorded on-location. Common everyday soundbites have been processed into usable snippets for music making and sound effects. The sound collection consists of ambient sounds of each location, found sounds, as well as sounds made with found objects.

ART OBjects

In each video, viewers are invited to spot the art installations and art objects, specially created for each location. Familiar objects that we often overlook are given a pop of colour, almost like they are beckoning viewers not to miss them. These painted objects lend a poetic license to the videos, a reminder to viewers to notice life's passing moments.

Wallflowers EP

Using the sound samples from the sound collection, local music producers have created unique instrumental tracks for each of the highlighted location. The soundtracks accompany the videos in the video series, and have been compiled into an EP.
